Confocal Raman Spectroscopy and Microscopy

• Name of the device: Confocal Raman Spectroscopy and Microscopy
• Device model: Lab Ram HR
• Made by the company: Horiba, Japan
• Operator: Amin Safai, Marjan Jafari
• Scientific supervisor of the device: Dr. Hamid Nadgaran (Physics Department, Faculty of Sciences)
• Time of use: all days of the week except holidays

  • Technical Device Description:

The important features of the confocal Raman device of the central laboratory of Shiraz University are as follows:

This device has three lasers with the following wavelengths and starting measurement from 50 cm-1:

532 nm wavelength with power of 100 mW - 785 nm wavelength with power of 100 mW and 633 nm wavelength with power of 17 mW

This device has a large motorized stage for bulky samples.

This device has SWIFT for fast confocal imaging.

This device has Duo Scan option for quick scanning of bulky and large samples.

This device has the following objective lenses:

   50X L-WD visible objective, NA = 0.50 WD = 10.6 mm

   5x NA = 0.10

   10x NA = 0.25

   100x NA = 0.90

This device has a fully automatic polarization change kit for both laser and scattering light used for samples with specific polarizibility.

The wavelength range of the device is 220 to 2200 nm.

In this device, the optical  settings and lasers are fully automatic, and the peak location and peak intensity of the samples is fully automatic.

  • Applications:

Raman Confocal Microscopy combines spectroscopic analysis with high-resolution imaging, enabling rapid and non-destructive characterization of materials at the molecular level. It finds applications in fields such as materials science, pharmaceuticals, forensics, and life sciences, geology, biology, chemistry, polymer, semiconductor-optics and electronics, food industries, authentication of artworks and antiquities, facilitating investigations of chemical composition, structural analysis, and biological imaging with exceptional sensitivity and spatial resolution.
