- The FTIR device is used to identify chemical compounds in consumer products, paints, polymers, coatings, drugs, food, as well as in the fields of medicine and life sciences. When infrared radiation shines on a sample, part of it is absorbed by the sample and part of it passes through. The wavelength of light that is absorbed by a specific molecule in the sample is a special characteristic of its molecular structure. . The main advantage of using IR spectroscopy is due to the generation of different spectra for different chemical (molecular) structures, which are unique for each molecule like a fingerprint.
- In the FTIR technique, based on the measurement of IR radiation absorption by the sample as a function of wavelength, functional groups and covalent bonds are identified, and thus the molecular components of the composition and their structure can be determined. In other words, FTIR is an effective analytical tool for identifying and measuring the molecular components of a compound and determining their structure.
